We’re getting in the Christmas mood. This evening Sue and I are going to see Maddy Prior and The Carnival Band at Warwick Arts Centre. Two of the Carnivals – Steve Banks and Steno – are regular musicians with Bamboozle. Steve plays djembe and kit drums as well as violin and guitar and Steno plays electric & acoustic guitar and mandolin. Both of them write songs and have written some classics on Bamboozle residencies. In fact one of Steno’s songs that appears on their new Christmas album [which is called Stuff and is great by the way] first saw the light of day at a Bamboozle residency about three years ago. It has been largely rewritten and turned into a Christmas carol - but the tune remains as does the last verse. Those who were on the residency will know it as: “Hey now, Hey now, Are you a rock in the River …..” etc. I remember it well. Many of Steno’s and Steve’s songs have lasting appeal to students too. I was recently in Ashfield Special School in Leicester and sitting next to a young man at lunch. He said that he remembered coming on a residency with Bamboozle and proceeded to sing me this very song.
If you would like to hear “Hey Now! Hey Now! …” it in its new form go to www.carnivalband.com The Christmas album is called Stuff and features, oddly enough, Terry Jones. The title of the track in question is "Wake up!" and you can download it.

It’s amazing how music has a way of reaching everybody no matter what age, ability or interest. Keep up the good work. Alastair
