Fish that Swim and Fish ...

As regular readers will know we are at present rehearsing “Where The Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendac – which is the reason that this is a later than usual monthly Bite.  During the scene when Max sets off to sea in his little boat the participating students have the chance to touch the fish that Max encounters and throw them into the ocean.

WTWTA designer Sue used rainbow organza to make the fish but any flimsy or floaty material would work.  Then she added a short row of beads on thin string which is attached to the mouth of each fish.  For those in the East Midlands ESPO produce lengths of beads which you can cut up and glue or tie the ends to stop the beads slipping off.  Alternatively thread small beads onto thin string or fishing line.

With the weight on the nose the fish can be tossed onto a parachute or blue material which represents the surface of the sea.  When the material is waved up and down by people holding round its edge the fish leap up and down in a frenzy.  Great fun!
