An example ‘Bite’ from the Multi-Sensory Activities Series – “Polar Landscape with Newsprint”

Newsprint * is great for making quick environments.   For example if we are telling a story about penguins or polar exploration we can transform the room into an Antarctic landscape in minutes by loosely screwing up handfuls of newsprint and scattering them across the floor.  We could also cover the tables and chairs with swathes of newsprint.  Not only is the story telling space visually changed but we have a snowfield that students can walk through and it makes a great sound as they scrunch through it either on foot or in wheel chairs.

*  You can get rolls of newsprint free from any newspaper publishing house.  They throw the ends of rolls away every day so are usually happy to give it away.
